This annual event provides the Chamber of Commerce and its members the opportunity to talk with elected officials in an informal setting. Representatives from New Hanover County, the City of Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach as well as US and State Senators and Representatives will attend the BBQ.

The speaker, Carl Younger, discussed BarCARES.  BarCARES is a confidential, short-term intervention program provided cost-free to members of participating judicial district bars, voluntary bar associations, and law schools. They offer assistance for a variety of personal and professional issues.  Noel Fox serves on the BarCARES Board of Directors.

Jim Dodson is a New York Times best-selling author ("Final Rounds," "A Golfer’s Life" with Arnold Palmer, "A Son of the Game").  Wells Fargo Championship Executive Chairman Mac Everett was also in attendance

This event provided Ashley and her colleagues from the Triangle area the opportunity to determine how to inform and educate North Carolina citizens about Collaborative Law. Collaborative law, an alternative to the court system, empowers the participants to work together as opposed to against each other to resolve domestic matters.

As the Town Attorney for Carolina Beach, Noel assisted the Town with seeking approval from the Coastal Resource Commission for the variance required to construct the Boardwalk.

 

The eighth Leadership Wilmington Class of 2017 learning session focused on the branches of local government and federal representation.  Presenters included Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and City Manager Sterling Cheatham; New Hanover County Commissioner Johnathan Barfield, Chairman Woody White, and County Manager Chris Coudreit; Town of Carolina Beach Mayor Dan Wilcox; and Chance Lambeth, Deputy Director for Congressman David Rouzer’s office.  At the end of the day, the Leadership Wilmington Class enjoyed a dinner with Mayor Saffo and members of the City Council, and attended a portion of the City Council meeting.  

With support from AARP NC and the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services partnered with the Cape Fear Area Agency on Aging and UNC-Wilmington to present a "kick-off" event to introduce local stakeholders to Dementia-Capable North Carolina. The event started a conversation about ways that Wilmington area stakeholders can support business, residents, health care providers, and social service organizations and move toward becoming a Dementia Capable community. Speakers included representatives from the North Carolina Division of Health and Human Services, Cape Fear Area Agency on Aging, family caregiving, and community and social services providers.

 

 

 

The National Society of the Colonial Dames hosted this fundraiser benefitting the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens.  Noel Fox is a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames.

The mission of NourishNC is to provide healthy food to hungry children, empowering them to succeed in the classroom and their community.  The Backpack Program provides K-5 children  with  8 meals, 2 snacks and fresh produce (apples, oranges, sweet potatoes, avocado, etc.) every weekend. Backpacks are delivered to the schools where social workers or family counselors then discreetly put the food bags into the children’s backpacks.
