The NCAWA was founded in 1978 by a group of women attorneys dedicated to speaking out on issues affecting women in North Carolina both within and outside of the legal profession.  As a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law, the knowledge of same-sex marriage gained from this event will allow Ms. Michael to better serve her clients. 

This annual event honored newly certified legal specialists. Ashley was certified as a specialist in Family Law on November 20, 2017.  She is only one of four attorneys in New Hanover County and one of 254 attorneys statewide to have achieved this certification.  Ashley is pictured above with Alice Neece Mine, Executive Director of the North Carolina State Bar.

The exhibit captures a spirit of playfulness in a lively, colorful and highly-interactive space and runs through fall 2019.  Kids of all ages will enjoy viewing toys from the past and discover different types of play through a variety of hands-on activities.

As a Board Certified Specialist, Mr. Craige focuses on Elder Law to improve the proficiency and the quality of legal services to his clients.  A lawyer who is certified as a specialist by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization has satisfied a number of rigorous standards for certification including peer review and continuing legal education to stay current in the specialty field.  http://www.nclawspecialists.gov/for-the-public/the-benefit-of hiring-a specialist/

 

Stephen A. Brown, Shareholder with the Raleigh law firm Young Moore Attorneys, addressed the crucial question of whether trust assets acquired during a marriage and owned by a Trustee on the date of separation may be treated as owned by a spouse and classified as marital property subject to equitable distribution during a divorce proceeding.  Ms. Roden is the President of the New Hanover County Estate Planning Council.

This statewide public service project provided civil legal aid to those who otherwise would not have access to a lawyer.  WECT provided the location for the Wilmington call center.  Ms. Michael appreciated the opportunity to help a wide range of North Carolina residents with their Family Law issues.

The CLE focused on a review of the general and specific authorities that may be granted to an agent by the principal, agent duties and liabilities and discussions of the use and application of a power of attorney under the new NC Uniform Power of Attorney Act for gifting, estate planning, real estate transactions, banking and judicial relief.

This webinar focused on the complex changes in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and the effect on family law matters of child support, tax law and spousal support.  As a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law, the knowledge gained from this CLE will allow Ms. Michael to better serve her clients.  http://www.nclawspecialists.gov/for-the-benefit-of-hiring-a-specialist/

 

Speaker, John Savercool, head of the U.S. Office of Public Policy, presented a unique perspective and insight into the current political climate in Washington DC.

Ashley and other North Carolina Collaborative Divorce attorneys formed this trade association to educate, train and inform other attorneys and citizens about this alternative to the traditional adversarial process for resolving divorce and family law disputes.
