Cape Fear Museum Park’s interconnected park-like landscape and interactive exhibits will introduce visitors to some of the ways that people have interacted with the region’s land and water resources through time and how these interactions have shaped the history of the Lower Cape Fear region. Visitors to the park can engage with hands-on exhibits, explore gardens featuring native and adaptive plants, learn about historic objects and images, and enjoy special educational activities. The park’s design provides fun, educational, family-friendly and inspiring ways to explore and enjoy nature.

The Power Breakfast Series is a quarterly gathering of the Cape Fear business community to talk about issues of interest to the region. The September 15, 2015 Power Breakfast featured Chancellor of UNCW, Jose Sartarelli, and President of CFCC, Amanda Lee, to discuss the future of higher education.


This event provided attendees the opportunity to network with other professionals in Wilmington while watching the Wilmington Hammerheads play Charlotte Independence.


This year’s Unprogram was held in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Topics covered during the program included Veteran Pension Planning, Medicaid and Special Need Planning, Estate Recovery Claims, and Prevention of Elder Fraud and Financial Exploitation.


Denise Ryan of Firestar Speaking was the keynote speaker at this networking opportunity for professional women sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and held at the Coastline Convention, Conference & Event Center in Wilmington.

This annual awards program spotlights finalists and winners in seven categories: Arts, Education, Health Care, Business, Public Service, Nonprofit/Volunteer, and Rising Star.  Wilma Magazine received almost 300 nominations and named thirty-five finalists. Ms. Fox was named as one of five finalists in the Business Category.



The New Hanover County Community Foundation (NHCCF) is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation and has reached $50,000 in giving with this year’s local grants to the New Hanover Community.  The board also made strategic decisions about grants they believe will benefit the local community and has adopted a new focus on non-profit programs serving children.  The NHCCF holds an annual, competitive grants process that begins each spring.


On August 17, 2015, Ms. Roden presented on the topic of Grantor Trusts to a group of attorneys, paralegals and CPAs. The CLE also provided participants with information regarding Revocable Trusts and Special Needs Trusts.


The WILMA Women to Watch Leadership Initiative's mission is to help develop more women leaders in Wimington-area businesses, nonprofits, government bodies and boards of directors.

The meeting's objective was to:
  • Create a better understanding of policing, incarceration, and re-entry in NC, including perspectives on diverse strategies that address criminal justice reform;
  • Explore how unintentional bias impacts racial inequities in the system; and
  • Explore possible opportunities for this work in the current climate through grant making and organizational leadership.
In 2012, the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Board and staff of the Foundation selected a 15-member class, composed of a diverse group of leaders, who have their finger on the pulse of the State to serve a three-year term as ZSR's inaugural Community Leadership Council (CLC).
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation invests in statewide, regional and community-based organizations that are dedicated to building an inclusive, sustainable and vibrant state. The groups that ZSR supports both work to build healthy, robust communities at the local and regional level and engage in education, civic dialogue and advocacy around issues of importance to communities and to North Carolina.
