Celebrity chef Giada DeLaurentis hosted this fundraiser to benefit the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (G.L.O.W.), a 6th – 12th grade single gender school modeled after the successful Young Women’s Leadership Schools.....opened in the fall of 2016 with 100 6th grade girls and is a free North Carolina public charter school.

Award winning writer and environmentalist David Gessner spoke at the event. The mission of the Coastal Land Trust is to enrich the coastal communities of North Carolina through conservation of natural areas and working landscapes, education and the promotion of good land stewardship.  Noel is a former Board member of the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust. 

The CLE titled “Elephant in the Room: Disposition of Qualified Plans and IRA’s” focused on the different ways an individual may leave a Qualified Plan or IRA to his or her loved ones through a trust.  The presentation also included strategies to name a Special Needs Trust as the beneficiary of an IRA.

The Pearce House is a newly constructed supportive housing apartment located at 809 Virgie Rhodes Lane, Wilmington, NC 28401 built with the support of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, the State Employees Credit Union Foundation, The City of Wilmington, and Elderhaus, Inc. The building houses eight-units designed as an alternative housing option for our area’s seniors

The fifth Leadership Wilmington Class of 2017 learning session focused on Wilmington’s infrastructure, with an emphasis on the demands being placed on roadways, water and sewer, the Ports and the airport.  Speakers included Mike Koxlosky, Executive Director of Wilmington MPO, Tom McAdams, Chairman of NC State Ports, Cliff Pyron, Senior Manage of External Affairs of the NC State Ports, Mike McGill, Chief Communications Officer of the CFPUA, Ben Kearns, Operator in Responsible Charge and Kevin Denson, Senior Control Operator of Sweeney Water Treatment Plant, and Juley Wisley, Executive Director of Wilmington International Airport.  

This event was held on the USS Battleship North Carolina and featured a presentation by Jake Shepherd, a World War II veteran and North Carolina native, who flew his B-17 and nine-member crew on 25 bombing runs over German territory



The first Leadership Wilmington Class of 2017 learning session focused on the arts, history, and culture of Wilmington.  The class members heard from and met with Bob Jenkins;,Shane Fernando, Director of the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College;,  Anne Brennan, Executive Director of the Cameron Arts Museum;, Rhonda Bellamy, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County;, Cleve Callison, Station Manager at WHQR Public Radio;,  Alisa Harris, owner of TheatreNOW;, Sheryl Mays, Executive Director of the Cape Fear Museum;, Tony Rivenbark, Executive Director of Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts;, and Johnny Griffin, Director of the Wilmington Regional Film Commission.  Harrison stated “I enjoyed learning about the fascinating history of Wilmington and the thriving arts scene of  my hometown.  Arts participation is economic development, and I am proud to live in a town with such a unique and dynamic culture.”

The Cape Fear Literacy Council provides personalized education to adult learners throughout the Cape Fear region.  Craige & Fox, PLLC was proud to be a sponsor of the Spelling Bee for Literacy, which raised awareness of and money for the Cape Fear Literacy Council.
