Ashley traveled to Vancouver, Canada to attend the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals annual forum in October 2014. Along with over a thousand other IACP members, which included attorneys, judges, mediators, arbitrators, licensed clinical and therapeutic professionals, and certified financial professionals the 4 day forum provided new resources, tools, information, and worldly experiences to each attendee in the growing movement of Collaborative Law. IACP is an international community of legal, mental health and financial professionals working in concert to create client-centered processes for resolving conflict. To become a member of IACP as an attorney, one must have at least 30 hours in conflict resolution training (i.e. Mediation) and at least 12 hours of basic Collaborative training among other requirements and standards.

New Methods to Settle Family Law Matters

Ashley is excited to bring new samples and ideas to her practice group, Coastal Collaborative Colleagues, to provide more opportunities to her clients and local citizens of the Cape Fear area an alternative to settle their family law matters outside of court to better meet their personal and family's goals during and after a separation/divorce. Studies show that with clients making decisions about their own future as well as their children's due to separation/divorce, settlement is reached faster than litigation, is less costly and there is less emotional stress on the family.
