The meeting's objective was to:
- Create a better understanding of policing, incarceration, and re-entry in NC, including perspectives on diverse strategies that address criminal justice reform;
- Explore how unintentional bias impacts racial inequities in the system; and
- Explore possible opportunities for this work in the current climate through grant making and organizational leadership.
In 2012, the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Board and staff of the Foundation selected a 15-member class, composed of a diverse group of leaders, who have their finger on the pulse of the State to serve a three-year term as ZSR's inaugural Community Leadership Council (CLC).
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation invests in statewide, regional and community-based organizations that are dedicated to building an inclusive, sustainable and vibrant state. The groups that ZSR supports both work to build healthy, robust communities at the local and regional level and engage in education, civic dialogue and advocacy around issues of importance to communities and to North Carolina.
